Renter Resources

Finding a suitable rental with a good landlord is hard. We have created this Resource Guide for renters. This is general information and not nespecific to GRC Holdings, LLC.

This page is intended to be informational only and is not a substitute for professional, financial, tax, and/or legal advice.

Landlords (including property managers and housing providers) are required to provide an Adverse Action Notice to denied rental applicants pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA"). This notice should include the name and contact information of the credit reporting agency that provided the credit report. You are entitled to contact the credit reporting agency listed and request a free copy of your report to evaluate the legitimacy of information contained therein within 60 days. It should be noted the credit reporting agency does not make decisions on whether to accept or deny your application - that is the responsibility of the landlord/property manager. Additional information about FCRA can be found here.

[All citizens are eligible to request a free credit report annually through Annual Credit Report - this is the only site approved by the Federal Trade Commission]

The City of Cedar Rapids has mandated all registered Landlords must conduct criminal records checks on any tenant age 18+ regardless of whether they are listed on the lease or not.

GRC Holdings, LLC uses RentPrep as it provided the items we needed at a reasonable price.

HCV stands for Housing Choice Voucher program. This program has also been referred to as "Section 8".

Cedar Rapids has provided information for local HCV renters on their city website.

Not necessarily. Landlords must follow specific steps to become an approved HCV landlord.
